Yesterday, Tallulah Willis, daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, took to the Internet to share that she has reached nine months of sobriety. Prior to the last nine months, many followed Tallulah’s struggle with substance abuse. After posting a picture of her standing victoriously atop Los Angeles’ Runyon Canyon, Willis’ followers immediately began to congratulate the proud 21 year-old, who has worked every day to reach this milestone. Earlier this year, she opened up about her situation and revealed that she had been battling depression for years.  As a result, she turned to substances to help make herself feel better.  Now; however, Willis seems to understand that there are better coping mechanisms available, and it appears she has a new lease on life.  Although all of the spotlight should be on Willis during this proud moment, there’s a lesson for everyone in this awesome success story.  Here are five things Tallulah Willis can teach us about being sober.

1. Confidence is key.

Fighting an addiction of any sort can be extremely tough.  Many people often feel discouraged once they begin to struggle with getting clear.  However, confidence is extremely important in helping walk down the path to sobriety.  Tallulah Willis’ confidence in her ability to fight temptation has certainly helped her realize that a sober life is a better life.

2. Family is important.

No matter what people are going through, family can often provide a great support system.  Tallulah Willis credits her sobriety milestone with a lot of help from her family.  According to Willis, her relationship with her sisters really helped her get through her time in rehab.

3. Never be ashamed.

Instead of feeling embarrassed by her situation, Tallulah Willis faced it head on.  She has been very open about her struggles, and has learned to love herself through all of her ups-and-downs.

4. Hard Work pays off.

Sobriety isn’t easy.  Addiction is a very complicated issue, and addicts a never truly free from their cravings.   However, Tallulah Willis has shown the world that hard work and dedication pay off, and her reward is a healthier life.

5. Take nothing for granted.

It is not unusual for people to take things for granted, especially when things are going good.  However, Tallulah Willis’ nine months of sobriety proves that it is important to appreciate each day, and take things as they come.
