Children in Need 2016 was an especially poignant edition of the BBC telethon as it was the first fundraising event for the Children’s charity since the passing of Sir Terry Wogan. The legendary Irish broadcaster who hosted the live TV fundraising event from its launch in 1980 until 2014, sadly passed away in January of this year aged 77.

The show which was hosted by a variety of presenters including Graham Norton, Greg James, Marvin and Rochelle Humes, and Tess Daly, included emotional tributes to the late, great Sir Terry Wogan, and also saw the first ‘Fundraiser of the Year’ awarded in his memory.

Not only did the night pay tribute to the charity’s pioneer it also included fun sketches starring Eddie Redmayne, Mel and Sue, and Simon Cowell, amongst others, as well as live performances from the likes of Little Mix, Craig David, and Ricky Gervais as David Brent.

All of this helped Children in Need raise a record amount of money to help children all across the UK, as the people of Britain dug deep once again to help those in need of help.

This years broadcast ended with an incredible record amount of £46.6m raised, beating last years grand total of £37.1m by almost £10m.

Host Rochelle Humes said Sir Terry Wogan would have been proud of this year’s “absolutely incredible” fundraising total.

You can still make a difference to the children of Britain by donating to Children in Need.
